Please note that this information refers to the highest full version and may not entirely apply to your individual license (Starter, Advanced, Pro, etc.) currently installed on your computer. Please make use of the links to the corresponding topics to find out about the modifications. This list is directly available at any time via the Help menu ? - New features.
A complete list of features offered by the corresponding licenses can be found in the help topics under Licenses and functions.
Information on latest changes, which are not yet documented in the help, are located here.
Important notes on using Wings Vioso RX can be found in topic Important notes on using Wings Vioso RX.
Display of the Wings Platinum user interface is now scalable. Therefore, usage of monitors with very high resolution is also possible, e.g. for 4k monitors or notebooks with very small monitors. See Options - Global Options - User interface.
Important note: Images and icons in the Help files are not yet scaled up as the CHM reader used by Windows does not support this. However, font is scaled correctly so that everything is readable, only the images are too small. This problem will be solved in one of the next versions.
For newcomers there is now a low-cost Eco License available which corresponds largely to the old Starter License. The free Basic License is no longer available. The new Starter License was upgraded and offers now three crossfade tracks per medium as well as a project backup function. Details of and differences between the various licenses can be found in the Feature table. See Licenses und Functions.
A completely new and highly efficient video engine and new codec package was implemented. They now allow also H.265 and QuickTime videos to be created and played back. H.265 videos are primarily useful for playback on TV sets and the new UHD player by AV Stumpfl. Creation of H.265 videos requires a modern graphics card by Nvidia with Maxwell chips set or up (i.e. GTX 9xx or Quadro Mxxx and up). For playback using Wings Vioso RX H.265 videos are less suited as they require very high performance. For QuickTime output there are also professional formats, such as Apple ProRes 4.2.2 available. Coding and extraction of video sound from AAC, AC3 or Ogg Vorbis formats can now be done without any additional tools without any problems. The same applies to multi-channel sound. The new codec package replaces the old MainConcept codecs. Rendering of videos now offers multiformat output. See Creating videos.
By popular request highlighted elements can now be deleted via the Delete key. This works both in the timeline and in the Media Pool. Since Wings Vioso RX has always offered multiple selection shortcut Ctrl + D was introduced for fast deselection. This function can also be accessed via the main menu Edit - Clear selection. See also Deletion of elements.
For the above function some less important shortcuts had to be changed:
Statistics/Diagnosis can now be opened by hitting Ctrl + I (instead of Ctrl + D as before)
Display screen info can now be opened by hitting Shift + Ctrl + I (instead of Shift + Ctrl + D as before)
See also Shortcuts in Wings Vioso RX.
Screen guide lines and presets can now also be imported from other projects. See Presets for guide lines.
The new Presets for camera movement and additional buttons for copying of values in the Keyframe Properties now allow camera movement to be created much more easily. See Tutorial Camera movement via still pictures.
A presentation can now be controlled using Wings Remote and any mobile devices such as smart phones or tablets using HTML browsers. The Wings Remote interface does not only offer buttons for Play and Pause but it allows also preview of images and key words to be displayed for the presenter. Moreover, volume control, ducking function, jumping back and forward to the adjacent pause or position markers, as well as triggers can now also be activated via Wings Remote. See Remote control using Wings Remote and smart phones.
A few things have changed in terms of the terminology used. Additional servers for multidisplay presentations are no longer called “Slave PCs” but “Client PCs”. Properties Dialogs , Windows messages and Task Manager no longer use "Wings 5" in the title bar but only "Wings". And from now on “Live video / TV” is only “Live video”.
The interface for the RED ROCKET X accelerator card was updated to version 6.3.0. See also Global Options - General.
The number of display/intermediate data to be created in parallel can be set under Project Options - Display data.
The object info line only shows the object length or the display time, respectively in minutes and seconds which, in the case of longer objects, allows for clearer information than the former display in seconds.
It is now possible to jump to any markers in the timeline by holding Shift + Ctrl and hitting the curser keys. So far only jumping to Position Markers was possible. However, you can also limit this to highlighted marker tracks. See also Jumping to specific locations.
Nodes are now provided with type-specific symbols (Linear, Bezier left/righ, Spline) so that the type of node can be recognized without opening its properties.
The tool settings used last can now be loaded when starting Wings Vioso RX. This proves useful for experienced users who want to use some special basic setting. See Global Options - User interface.
The Live player in video tracks now allows pictures to be displayed. See Live player for videos.
Since the Live players are now also available on the Avio network they can now also interact with other Avio resources. See also Live player for videos and Live player for sound.
The screen field option Object size when inserting is now also considered by the Live Players. See also Live player for videos.
Item Adjust in main menu item View was removed as it caused problems and was hardly ever used.
Videos and picture sequences can now optionally be displayed without preview data in timeline objects. This saves performances when using timelines with an extremely high number of video objects. See Displaying video objects without thumbnails.
The button for presentation quality was removed from the video track head. Due to the fact that current computers are powerful enough this button is no longer required as it also caused maloperation.
Higher-resolution display data for videos is no longer available, as virtually nobody used them and this function was a source of errors.
For license reasons, direct writing of CD, DVD and Blue-ray is no longer possible.
Some serial remote control commands are no longer supported. Commands that are no longer supported... Any of those commands used in installations needs to be replaced by other commands when Wings Vioso RX 6 is used. See Remote control via EventPlayer protocol.
The new Trigger Activate in category Timeline shifts the focus to one particular timeline. If the addressed timeline is closed it is opened. See Trigger actions.
For Trigger Timeline - Continue at video end a timeline can now be addressed. See also Trigger actions.
When Cancel is clicked in the Properties during Trigger creation the trigger is now deleted immediately. So far a trigger was created which had to be deleted separately.
In category Timeline triggers Restart and Scrub to position are no longer supported. Category Live video / TV was completely removed. It contained actions for controlling old TV tuner cards and for closing video inputs. See also See also Trigger actions.
When adding picture sequences to the Pool the alpha channel is now enabled automatically if a color depth of 32 or 64 bits is detected. See also Adding a sequence of pictures to a video track.
Export of text objects as Photoshop files (*.PSD) was removed as it caused compatibility problems. See also Exporting text objects as images.
The behavior of markers has been changed: Start at the exact marker location does not execute it; the start needs to be more than 1 ms before the marker.
Trigger Vioso Calibration - Execute calibration now features a break of 3 seconds before the calibration is started to ensure that all video inputs are shut off. See also Automatic calibration of a permanent installation.
For MIDI timecode a timeline autoplay function was added. Playback of the timeline with the specified remote index is automatically started in sync when MIDI timecode arrives. See Slave Mode with MIDI timecode.
For playback of Multi-channel sound there are now up to 32 channels which can be selected in the form of 16 stereo channels. See Global Options - Sound cards WDM.
The media server Wings Avio Master now offers asynchronous sound. See also Asynchronous audio playback.
Pause Markers can now be set using capital “M”, i.e. by using shift + M. Position markers can be set using a small “m”. See also Markers (from version 6.0.13 and up).
A new option for data objects has been introduced: Four nodes, start and end set to 0%. This causes data objects with two additional nodes which is very useful for variables. See Global Options - Objects - Data (from version 6.0.13 and up).
Confirmation of deletions in the timeline via the Delete key can now be set and offers the following options: Always (i.e. as before), For more than one element and Never. See Global Options - User interface (from version 6.0.13 and up).
The HighEnd audio formats are now available with an Eco License and higher, which plays an important role for the audio extraction of particular videos (from version 6.0.13 and up).
Jumps to markers in the timeline using Ctrl + Shift + cursor keys are now also possible during playback (as of version 6.0.14). See also Jumping to specific locations.

The new option Force deinterlacing allows deinterlacing videos where deinterlacing does not work automatically. See also Video Properties (as of version 6.0.15).
After having set Position or Pause Markers in Pause Mode and when the Locator is still on the set marker you can press the M key or Shift + M to change the previously set marker type (as of version. 6.0.15).
When assigning monitor outputs to displays it is verified whether the output is already in use. If so, an alternative is offered (as of version 6.0.15).
In the Media Pool in category Video a new context menu Add picture sequence folder... is available which allows selection and adding of entire folders. This means that picture sequence and folder are imported to the Media Pool. See also Adding a sequence of pictures to a video track (as of version 6.0.15).
When a video contains multi-channel sound the audio is extracted in the form of several stereo wave files and added to new audio tracks provided the video was dropped into an empty timeline area below the tracks. Any further information worth noting can be found in topic Editing video sound and Multi-channel sound.
The Video Pool now contains a column Format / Audio which shows the number of audio channels (as of version 6.0.19).
In the Display Properties the denomination “Monitor” was renamed to Output. See Display Properties (as of version 6.0.18).

When starting the presentation via Avio the preselected marker is no longer ignored.
The slight shrinkage and change of the aspect ratio of the screen window every time it is closed/opened has been remedied.
Trigger "Wings - Save project" had no function up to now.
When removing devices from the device pool Wings tended to crash. This bug has been fixed.
When importing from templates control tracks were sometimes added directly to the pool (and not the new import folder).
Vioso licenses were always too low by one (Lite instead of Pro, etc.)
When files are dragged & dropped into the empty main window (without timelines) only the corresponding project files (i.e. *.w6 or *.rx) are accepted. In all other cases an error message appears (from version 6.0.13 and up).

The latest debugging info that has not yet been documented in the help files can be found here.
Here you will find problems that are known to us. However, it will only be possible to remedy them in any of the future versions.
The program window title bar is not scaled.
Color selection dialogs as well as icons and images in the help files are not scaled correctly.
Output of SMPTE timecode via an audio channel does not yet work with ASIO drivers. Please use a sound card with WDM driver instead.
For some video formats deinterlacing is always on. It cannot be disabled and some other selected deinterlacing modes cannot be used.
Warp settings of version 4.20 or earlier cannot be loaded as they are incompatible with the new technology. Warping, therefore, needs to be recreated.
Disabled VST-PlugIn keep being enabled by Undo steps. Workaround: Remove the PlugIn if you don't need it any more.
When images are rotated via keyframes some graphics data tiles may not be loaded in presentation mode.
If, for certain effects, the display data need to be loaded as a whole (texture without subdivision), moving objects may appear jerky while loading. Possible workaround: Extend the object with the effect so that beginning and end are located in areas without movement and control visibility via the ramp band. This should ensure that loading and unloading of the texture take place at areas without movements.
During video creation using a DVD preset the image is currently not displayed at optimal size if the screen format differs from 16:9 or 4:3. In this case large black bars are visible.
For DVDs with menu control only a maximum number of 9 videos are allowed as the 10th video causes a memory overflow during DVD creation and the application hangs. We are sorry to say that we are unable to fix this bug as this is a MainConcept program part.
If the media are not displayed on the screen during display data creation, move the Locator briefly until the screen contents change.
Images with 3D rotation (rotation in X/Y axis) are not displayed correctly when the image section is off-centre on the screen. Solution: Use Pan tool and mouse wheel only to change the visible section or drag the edges of the screen window.
Via In Screen Editing you can program rotations of a maximum of +/- 180 degrees, i.e. one half rotation into the one or the other direction. For one full rotation or several rotations you need to use the Keyframe Dialog or parameter objects.
When splitting up combined control tracks into individual tracks with parameter objects, no tracks for the rotation center are set up.
With an extended desktop the audio level display may cause jerks. In such a case, select a different tab and make the audio level display disappear. Automatic display of the audio level display can be disabled via the Global Options - Audio Level.
