Wings Vioso RX supports numerous file formats of different types of media, which are automatically recognized when they are added to the Media Pool.
Wings Vioso RX supports all commonly used pixel-oriented image formats except Corel PhotoPaint files (*.cpt). The color depth must not exceed 24 bits, except for TIF files which may also have 48 bits. Any color profiles that may be available are considered for TIF and JPEG format. See also Color management. Vector-based formats are not supported; they need to be converted into a pixel format.
For image files without transparency JPEG is an appropriate final file format as it offers high quality with moderate compression and relatively low memory space requirements. In particular when a RAW converter such as Lightroom is used JPEG format is a wise choice as changes of the original RAW file are still possible and no losses due to renewed saving are caused.
Tip: If restricted memory capacity is no major issue, you should use TIF format for the pictures, Advantages of the TIF format.
RAW formats are explicitly not supported. Please note that TIF format is a container that may also contain RAW data. Such files are not supported by Wings Vioso RX even if their file suffix is *.tif.
All uncompressed wave and MP3 formats are supported. Within one project files with different resolution and sampling rates can be used. Wings Vioso RX will convert them online without you even noticing.
AVI: Playback of these container formats require the codec the videos were compressed with to be available in the operating system. DV videos need to be of type 2 (recorded with Adobe Premiere or Scenalyzer Live, for example), type 1 is not supported.
MPEG Codecs are part of Wings Vioso RX, so that MPEG-1 and MPEG 2, as well as H.264 and H.265 format can be played and output. Since HDV videos are MPEG-2 compressed videos they can also be processed. In principle, this applies also to VOB files from video DVDs. For more information refer to Processing VOB files.
MXF (Material eXchange Format); currently, however, the sound cannot yet be extracted. It is an open file format for video files originally used for broadcast production. Just like AVI and MOV it is a container format and was designed with the aim in mind to simplify the exchange of audiovisual files incl. metadata.
QuickTime videos (*.mov): The codec package in Wings allows most videos to be played in this container format. However, there are also some video versions that require installation of a QuickTime player as of version 7.01. The QuickTime Player installation file can be found on the Wings Vioso RX DVD or USB stick in folder Software or on the Internet at www.apple.com. Important note: Since Apple does not longer update the QuickTime Player for Windows it should only be installed on computers without Internet connection. Otherwise there is a security risk! Instead of QuickTime you can also install FFDShow which offers an extensive codec package and can also decode AAC audio, among other things.
REDCODE-RAW videos (*.r3d) are directly supported. Editing steps carried out in the REDCINE-X PRO software are supported directly by Wings Vioso RX without requiring any rendering (nondestructive editing). For decoding the acceleration card RED rocket is supported. See Global Options - General.
WMV: Playback of Windows Media videos requires Windows Media codecs to be installed. If, however, the Windows Media Player is installed on a computer the codecs should already be available.
