When this function is enabled, the Locator turns magnetic while it is being moved. The following options are available which can be selected via the button context menu Snap enabled or main menu item Timeline - Snap ... :
Snap to raster ...allows the Locator to snap to the time raster, i.e. usually every full second. However, the raster can also be customized. See Timeline Properties.
Snap to guide ...allows the Locator to snap to the guides of position markers when they are visible. See Using markers.
Snap to objects ...allows the Locator to snap to the beginning or end of objects, to nodes, keyframes and markers.
All these three options can be combined and used simultaneously. However, this would only make sense in exceptional cases.
This is how you enable/disable the magnetic Locator:
In the function bar click Snap enabled. When this button is depressed, the function is enabled.
It can very quickly be enabled and disabled by pressing the L key.
Or, as another alternative, you click Timeline - Snap Active in the main menu.
This functions allows very accurate alignment of objects by grabbing the objects at the front or back and having them snap to various reference lines.
Function Snap to objects can be restricted to certain tracks by highlighting them. If no track is highlighted the objects of all tracks are considered.
The magnetic effect can be adjusted via the Snap Radius. See Options – Global Options – User interface.
