In order to use external control elements for controlling devices, the corresponding link between data object and control element must be established. Buttons, for example, lend themselves to switching functions, slide controls to analog/DMX control. To be able to allocate and use a control element it needs to be set up in the Media Pool category Devices. See Configuring devices in the Media Pool.
And this is how you proceed:
Create a data object for the device to be controlled. See Programming switching outputs or analog/DMX control channels.
In the Media Pool, click category Devices. If no input device is available yet, right-click the Media Pool and add one. ...See also Registering input devices in the Media Pool.
Click the plus sign in front of the input device to display the control elements to be allocated.
Grab the corresponding control element and drag it to the data object of the device to be controlled. The data object info line will show the name of the allocated control element.
You can also allocate the same control elements to several data objects. For control or recording purposes, the corresponding devices can be controlled jointly via one control element.
