A remote control port is used for remote control of Wings Vioso RX via external devices. By the way, a remote control port is not relevant for multidisplay presentations. Those settings need to be made at Global Options – Network.
This is how you create a remote control port:
Click on category Devices in the Media Pool.
Right-click some free space in the Media Pool and select Add port Remote Control.
Select the required type of communication:
If you want control via a serial port (e.g. via the Stumpfl Speaker Support remote control unit) you click Serial port and select the corresponding port.
If you want control via a network, click on IP address / port and enter address and port of the server or device this Wings Vioso RX computer is to be controlled by. You also need to choose the corresponding control protocol, preferably UDP.
Click on OK.
To use the remote control unit, the device control system needs to be enabled, which can be recognized by the button being provided with a gray background.
Connecting two computers via serial ports requires a zero modem cable.
For remote control via TCP/IP, the server or unit to be controlled needs to be activated before enabling the device control system. In many cases it may be more useful to use UDP. It requires no acknowledgement and the Windows Network is not blocked when connection problems occur.
Information about the computer IP address can be found by double-clicking the LAN connection and clicking tab Network support in dialog Status of ...
In order to find out which computer ports are being used, enter command netstat -a in the prompt window.
